CORUM held its 11th Annual General Meeting (AGM) with a focused agenda on strengthening Colorectal Cancer support services, expanding partnerships, and enhancing operational transparency. The meeting brought together members from across chapters to discuss ongoing projects, fundraising efforts, and the election of the new committee for the 2025-2027 term.
A key highlight was the renewed commitment to the stoma bag project, with members agreeing to raise RM25,000 – RM30,000 this year. All members were encouraged to reach out to their networks for donations, while the fundraising committee will lead the campaign. Discussions also covered existing collaborations with Big Pharmacy and Caring Pharmacy, who continue to support CORUM’s screening initiatives by offering test kits at subsidized rates.
Dr. Mehesh, who was re-elected as President, will continue engaging with international bodies to explore collaboration and learning opportunities. Plans are also underway to provide pharmacy-based discounts for CORUM members, to be facilitated through ongoing industry partnerships.
The AGM approved key amendments to CORUM’s constitution, aimed at securing tax- exempt status and ensuring that funds raised are used for public benefit. These changes include a clause requiring that at least 75% of all raised funds be utilized within a year, and that any surplus, in the event of dissolution, be transferred to another colorectal cancer support group.
The meeting also emphasized the need for volunteers across subcommittees, particularly in peer support, fundraising, and education. Members were urged to step forward to support activities in hospitals and regional chapters.
As part of the organizational growth, responsibilities are distributed among members. These include leading CORUM’s media and outreach efforts, updating the constitution with the newly approved amendments, and coordinating upcoming webinars while securing medical speakers etc.
The AGM concluded with the announcement of the new executive committee:
- President: Dato’ Mehesh
- Vice President: Abd Hamid
- Hon Secretary: Tg Nazeehah (Zeze)
- Hon Assistant Secretary: Wong Seong Cho
- Hon Treasurer: Thomas Chin
- Committee Members: Luqman Mazlan, Dr. Mohan, En Norazri
CORUM thanks all outgoing and continuing members for their service and welcomes the new committee as it begins its term focused on support, awareness, and community-driven action.
